Summary:
An aspiring lawyer, Camelia has a passion for unsolved crimes. Rory Cavendish, her former tormentor, has just mysteriously died. The presumed murderer is him.
Lou McAllister.
Rory’s best friend.
The boy who humiliated her ten years ago and whom she’s never forgotten since.
Camelia seizes the chance to solve her first case… and satisfy her thirst for revenge.
Lou has always been the black sheep of his family, but he never expected to end up in prison for murder. From one day to the next, he’s abandoned by everyone he’s ever trusted. The only person who can get him out of there is her.
Camelia O’Brien.
Rory’s first victim.
The girl he hurt when he was younger and who has haunted his thoughts ever since.
Lou will do anything to atone for his sins… and start afresh.
My opinion:
Unsurprisingly, this is a real favorite! Once again, the author succeeds in drawing us into her story and surprising us.
The fact that Lou and Camelia have to meet again because Camelia is defending Lou for Rory’s murder is quite funny. Camelia is on the defensive throughout their exchanges, sending Lou spikes. I loved this character’s sharpness!
Their romance gradually takes shape, and we realize that the feelings they had for each other in high school are still there.
As for the detective aspect of the novel, I thought I’d be disappointed, but in the end… reversal of fortune! I was completely shocked! The plot twist is incredible!
In summary:
This book is an excellent first volume that opens the Seasons saga in style. The romance is pleasant to follow and the investigation is full of suspense. I hope that the next volumes in this saga will live up to their promise… See you with Lily, Nolia and Jasmine.
NOTE: 8/10
“I’m not playing, Camelia. The only thing I’m gambling with is my heart. Take it if you want it, and don’t give it back… I’ve never needed it. […] It’s always been yours, from the first time I saw you.”
